Sustainability

Sustainability is not an add-on to our business. It is our business. Every container we recycle, every route we optimize, and every partnership we build is designed to reduce waste and protect the environment.

The Circular Economy in Action

Instead of a linear take-make-dispose model, we keep containers circulating through the economy for as long as possible.

1

Collection

We collect used containers from businesses, manufacturers, and distributors. Our logistics network makes it easy to schedule pickups from anywhere in the country.

2

Inspection

Every container is thoroughly inspected, cleaned, and graded. Containers fit for reuse are prepared for resale. Those beyond reuse are sorted for material recycling.

3

Redistribution

Quality-approved containers are sold to businesses that need them. This gives each container multiple lifecycles, extracting maximum value from every resource.

4

Recycling

At end-of-life, materials are broken down and recycled into raw inputs for new products. The cycle begins again, and nothing goes to waste.

Why the Circular Model Matters

The traditional linear economy extracts raw materials, manufactures products, and discards them after a single use. For industrial packaging, this means trees are cut for cardboard, petroleum is refined for plastics, and metals are mined for steel -- all for containers that may be used once and thrown away.

Our circular model breaks this cycle. By keeping containers in use for multiple lifecycles and responsibly recycling materials at end-of-life, we dramatically reduce the demand for virgin resources and the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new packaging.

How Recycling Containers Helps the Environment

The environmental benefits of recycling industrial packaging are significant and measurable across multiple categories.

Conserving Natural Resources

Manufacturing new IBC totes requires virgin cardboard, which means cutting trees. Each recycled IBC tote saves approximately 17 trees worth of paper pulp over its extended lifetime. IBC totes made from recycled plastics reduce petroleum consumption.

By extending the life of existing containers, we reduce the extraction of raw materials at the source, preserving forests, reducing mining operations, and lowering petroleum dependency.

Reducing Energy Consumption

Manufacturing new industrial containers is energy-intensive. Producing a new IBC tote from virgin materials requires significantly more energy than cleaning and reconditioning an existing one. The same applies to corrugated containers and plastic bulk bins.

Our inspecting, cleaning, and grading process uses a fraction of the energy required for new production. This translates directly into reduced greenhouse gas emissions from power generation.

Reducing Landfill Waste

Industrial containers take up enormous amounts of landfill space. A single IBC tote occupies over 50 cubic feet. IBC totes and IBC tanks are even larger. When these items end up in landfills, they contribute to soil contamination and methane emissions as organic materials decompose.

Our 95%+ diversion rate means the vast majority of containers we handle never see a landfill. They either continue their useful life or are broken down into recyclable materials.

Lowering Water Usage

Paper and cardboard manufacturing is one of the most water-intensive industrial processes. Producing one ton of new cardboard requires approximately 10,000 gallons of water. By reusing IBC totes instead of manufacturing new ones, we conserve vast amounts of fresh water.

Even our cleaning processes for IBC totes use advanced water-efficient methods that consume far less water than new-container manufacturing.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

Our operations contribute to significant carbon emission reductions across the entire supply chain.

60%

Manufacturing Emissions Avoided

By reusing containers instead of manufacturing new ones, we help our customers avoid up to 60% of the carbon emissions associated with new container production, including raw material extraction, processing, and factory operations.

30%

Transport Emissions Reduced

Our optimized logistics routes and consolidated shipments reduce transport-related emissions by approximately 30% compared to individual pickups and deliveries. Smart routing means fewer miles driven per container.

15,000+

Tons of CO2 Prevented Annually

The combined effect of our reuse, recycling, and logistics optimization prevents over 15,000 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year. That is equivalent to taking over 3,000 cars off the road.

Certifications & Commitments

We hold ourselves accountable through third-party certifications and public commitments to environmental standards.

Responsible Recycling Practices

Our recycling operations meet and exceed industry standards for responsible material handling. We track every container from intake to final disposition, ensuring full chain-of-custody documentation.

ESG Reporting

We provide comprehensive environmental, social, and governance reports to customers who need them for their own sustainability documentation. These reports include verified data on waste diversion, carbon savings, and material recovery rates.

Continuous Improvement Pledge

We are committed to improving our environmental performance year over year. This includes increasing our diversion rate, reducing our own operational emissions, and expanding the types of materials we can responsibly process.

Our Green Promise

We promise to treat every container as a valuable resource, not waste. We promise to operate with transparency, measure our impact honestly, and continually push for better environmental outcomes. We promise that when you partner with IBC Recycle, you are making a real, verifiable difference for the planet.

This is not greenwashing. This is our business model, our operating philosophy, and our reason for getting up in the morning. We invite you to hold us accountable.
